Intern Invites

It's not even August yet, but I'm already feeling the back-to-school vibe with department stores swapping racks of bathing suits for backpacks. So before my friends all return to their respective colleges, I thought I'd host one last get together -- a cocktail party -- and it'd be the perfect chance for me to test the invitation-crafting skills I've acquired this summer at Haute Papier. It's going to be my close girlfriends -- so I know I want feminine colors and images. I'm thinking summer-y colors: pinks, reds, oranges. I've come up with this funky floral design -- it's really fun, but still cute and feminine. I'm thinking about printing this pattern as a background on the invitation card, with a white box in the middle that will have the actual text.

I'm still working on completing the design and invitation, but I wanted to share my ideas and the graphics I've been working on -- I'll be sure to post the finished product. I think my friends will be impressed with the invitations for a fun night of sundresses and cocktails.

One Week at a Time!

Hi!  It’s Elaine and Mandy once again!  Our last couple of internship weeks are upon us, and we wanted to share some important things we have learned!  Being an intern isn’t always the easiest process from the start.  We had to become accustomed with the specific way Haute Papier operates from a day-to-day basis.  We quickly learned that asking questions was extremely important.   It takes patience, eagerness, and enthusiasm to get the most out of working with a company such as Haute Papier because some projects can take hours to complete.  It is crucial to treat each and every invitation as it was the first because you want all them to look perfect.

We had the opportunity to work on Miranda and Eric’s wedding invitations as well as Morgan and Preston’s invitations.  Both wedding invitations were absolutely stunning in their own way, and we enjoyed working on both of them!

Elaine has also been working on enhancing the pictures and graphics from the Haute Papier website.  Mandy has also had the opportunity to work with Sarah on designing flowers in Adobe Illustrator for an Haute Papier client.

Project of the Week: Miranda and Eric

miranda

We were quite taken right away with Miranda and her love of our favorite color.  Purple that is ... as if you couldn't tell.  We had just the perfect accessory to make Miranda and Eric's wedding invitation truly pop.  I'm talking our custom made 3" double-faced satin ribbon in plum.  Now I have to admit, I was completely reluctant to let this ribbon go, but I tend to hold on to stuff I love and years later realize I never had the strength to use it on something fabulous (many a great bottle of wine has been lost to this personality fault).  Sarah was not so reluctant, and good thing!

Miranda and Eric also fell in love with a gold and ivory tissue paper which inspired the design on their two-color letterpressed invitations.  We coordinated our metallic gold letterpress ink with a stunning purple custom mixed ink.  The layout was pretty intricate; theirs is definitely an invitation that will take their guests' breath away!  The inivtation piece was mounted on a gold metallic paper which was folded like a book cover with ribbon tucked behind so that when the folded paper closed the bow could be tied around the front.  On the inside, we mounted the reception card and tucked their additional information pieces and the RSVP set into a handmade pocket made from the gold and ivory tissue paper.  The invitation set was packaged in a white mailing box and adorned with custom stamps!

Icing on the Cake...

It's such a delight to hear from clients for whom our couture designs and materials serve as sources of inspiration and pleasure! This morning, Sarah discovered in her mailbox an email from one such client, Lauren, who wrote: "Ok, I had to share. I had my cake lady design the cake based upon that pretty paper you used in my invitations. The final cake is going to have the scroll work in gold." Lauren even attached a photo of the gorgeous, four-tiered cake, which is shown below. Lauren chose Fluffy Thoughts Bakery in McLean, Virginia to make her cake.
