A Peek Inside - Our Brainstorming Process!

It is certainly an exciting time for Haute Papier as we gear up for the 2012 National Stationery Show.  We thought we would show you a teeny tiny bit of how our new product R&D process works.  What you see above is a photo of what we call "The Board".  Well, it's actually a few boards, but you get the idea.  Nothing gets ink until it's decided on and not changing unless absolutely necessary.  This, of course, really means that something just doesn't work in the end.  Live and learn, right?!?  And below, "The Wall".  These are the finals and our true inspiration to keep on going until May.  Everything is look awesome and we can't wait to launch!

The Paper Lady

Haute Papier enjoys getting to know our vendors! Rosie at The Paper Lady in Denver, Colorado has a wonderful store! It is a staple in the community and we just had to hear more about The Paper Lady!! So we just had to ask the Rosie more about her store!

How many years have you been in business? The store was previously owned by the original paper lady for 22 years, I worked for her for one year, learned she wanted to sell so expressed my deep love for correspondence and interest in all things paper.  I have since owned for 6 years, so it is a Denver staple!

Do you have a website, if so, what's the address? I do have a website, it is more informational and needs some serious TLC and updating, but it is: www.paperladyonline.com

If you were to sell something other than stationery, what would it be?
I love candy and wine. So, I think it would be fun to have a fun boutique shop of either one of those.  My great grandfather was the founder of one of the country’s first department stores so I suppose retail is in my blood!

Besides the obvious (stationery), what is your favorite thing to give as a hostess gift? I love to give anything personalized as a hostess gift, something unique to the individual that stands out and shows your appreciation for the invite and attention to detail.  I love it when I can really “wow” the hostess, as being entertained is such a treat, and such a gift when you can master the craft!

Here at Haute Papier, we love to eat! When in NYC for the National Stationery Show, where is your favorite place to grab dinner? I too, love to dine.  NYC is so tricky, there are so many fabulous spots and the restaurant scene is always changing.  I love Seraphina.  Great atmosphere and always yummy reliable food.  The Mercer Kitchen never disappoints and it is a fun vibe downtown.  La Goulue was one of my faves, but I have heard they closed,  hopefully it will be opening again, it was such a dee-lish French bistro on the upper east side.  Clearly I need to take these taste buds back to NYC to see what and where the new hot spots are!

Any other tidbits about your store you'd like to share? I love this business so much, because I think correspondence is truly an art form and an invaluable skill.  I believe so strongly in it.  I also love to entertain, and think it too is so important and personal.  I swear that I was born in the wrong era/generation!  I  love the feel of a small shop and the attention to detail we place on each customer and order.  We pride ourselves on really getting to know our customers, as we navigate them through these many milestones in life, by putting them on paper!  In this day and age of everything electronic and all the big chains, it is nice to slow down, read between the handwritten lines and shop local!

Thanks so much for sharing with us Rosie!! See you at the National Stationery Show in a couple months!!!

Menage Fine Stationery & Gifts

Menage Fine Stationery & Gifts is a quaint store for all your stationery needs. It has been in business as long as us here at Haute Papier (five years)! Dixie and the ladies at Menage work hard to supply Memphis with their desires in the world of stationery. I just had to ask her more!!

How many years have you been in business?  5 years in June

Do you have a website, if so, what's the address? www.menagestationery.com

If you were to sell something other than stationery, what would it be? We are already a gift and stationery store...a regular destination for our gift giving friends!  We have a unique gift wrap that they all seam to love, but if I could add another dimension it might be to add more in the way of calligraphy supplies and perhaps a few office/desk inspired antiques.

Besides the obvious (stationery), what is your favorite thing to give as a hostess gift? Wine related gifts, cocktail napkins, vases, cheese knives.

Here at Haute Papier, we love to eat!  When in NYC for the National Stationery Show, where is your favorite place to grab dinner? My philosophy is NEVER eat anywhere you can eat at home!  I love to seek out neighborhood restaurants.  One of my recent successes was wild Ginger, 380 Broome St., New York, NY 10013 - a very reasonably priced vegetarian stop in Soho.

Any other tidbits about your store you'd like to share? We opened our doors almost 5 years ago less than a mile from another well established Memphis paper store in the heart of East Memphis. So we have never had Crane or William Arthur!  We have steadily carved our niche in the beautiful world of letterpress.

The Louie Awards - 2011

We are excited to represent the Greeting Card Association in the Louie Award judging again this year!  Sarah has participated for the last two years and this year Erin was honored to be asked to join a great group of judges.  Take a peak at the awesome, circus inspired invitation suite sent out late last year.  It was, of course, fabulous and we just adored the added touch the cut out elephant created.  Who would expect anything less from the Greeting Card Association which represents the stationery industry and the best of the best of greeting cards, invitations and more!  This festive time of year in the stationery industry culminates at a the annual Louie Awards - an evening of fun and networking during the National Stationery Show!

Papers + Presents

PAPER-AND-PRESENTS

Papers + Presents is an adorable store in Wellesley, Massachusetts! Carolyn McCoy had an eye for stationery at a young age! Thanks to the inspiration from hometown store in Virginia, Carolyn established a store all her own years later. Papers + Presents is a unique and trendy place to pick up some gifts or just find goodies for yourself. Here at Haute Papier we just had to find out more from Carolyn.

How many years have you been in business? I started my business 23 years ago.  Wow!

Do you have a website, if so, what's the address? www.paperspresents.com (on the verge of debuting our new site - with  our fresh new look.  stay tuned!)

If you were to sell something other than stationery, what would it be? If I didn't have the shop, I think it would be fun to have a cool restaurant.

Besides the obvious (stationery ), what is your favorite thing to give as a hostess gift? For hostess gifts, if i don't give stationery, I like to give a nice bottle of wine (with a darling, custom hang tag!) or a jar of nam's bits (again with my custom label - xoxo, carolyn + tim)

Here at Haute Papier, we love to eat!  When in NYC for the National Stationery Show, where is your favorite place to grab dinner? For eats in NYC - Cipriani and Buddakan are faves. YUM!!!

Any other tidbits about your store you'd like to share? We just renovated our store.  Having been in this space for 12+  years, we felt it needed a little lovin'.  I am really happy with the renovation.  Come visit if you are in the Boston area.
