Vendor Spotlight: Monograham Paper

Monograham Paper in Delafield, Wisconsin is a bright, vibrant but classy store. Amy opened it not even a year ago. SMOCK papery is in abundance at Monograham. I just had to find out more from Amy!!

How many years have you been in business?  Our brick and mortar store has been open since last July.

Do you have a website, if so, what's the address? monograhampaper.com

If you were to sell something other than stationery, what would it be? Well we do.  ;)  We sell everything from jewelry to hand lotion.  We feature mostly small, independent companies with a commitment to sustainability.

Besides the obvious (stationery), what is your favorite thing to give as a hostess gift?  I always love to bring fresh flowers (from my garden or the farmer's market) in a vintage vase .

Here at Haute Papier, we love to eat!  When in NYC for the National Stationery Show, where is your favorite place to grab dinner?  i love joseph leonard.  love. love. love. http://josephleonard.com/

Any other tidbits about your store you'd like to share? I love designing my work (for smock) amidst all the inspiring products being made by others.  I feel very fortunate.

Thanks Amy, can't wait to see you at the National Stationery Show!

A Peek Inside - Our Brainstorming Process!

It is certainly an exciting time for Haute Papier as we gear up for the 2012 National Stationery Show.  We thought we would show you a teeny tiny bit of how our new product R&D process works.  What you see above is a photo of what we call "The Board".  Well, it's actually a few boards, but you get the idea.  Nothing gets ink until it's decided on and not changing unless absolutely necessary.  This, of course, really means that something just doesn't work in the end.  Live and learn, right?!?  And below, "The Wall".  These are the finals and our true inspiration to keep on going until May.  Everything is look awesome and we can't wait to launch!

Real Party: Karen's 35th!

Check out these two color letterpressed birthday party invites we printed for Karen from Soiree San Francisco!  We actually got to meet Karen a couple of weeks ago when she was in town for her "day job" at the CEB.  She visited our warehouse in Rosslyn to meet our presses and design some custom personal stationery - we can't wait to share that too... she's keeping with the fuchsia and adding one of our favorite new elements - gold foil!   We hope you have a wonderful birthday in Tahoe Karen!!

Make-it Monday!

We're excited to introduce Make-it Mondays!  Each Monday tune in for a new DIY project from the ladies of Haute Papier. First up is a little origami with one of our favorite papers from our friends at Smock.  We carry their full line of flat papers in Leesburg - come by the retail store to pick some up for your very own paper folding projects. kusudama_origami_flowerMaterials:

  • 5 square pieces of paper (you can actually use any size you like as long as it's square)
  • glue or double-sided tape

How to:

Fold the paper in half, creating a triangle

Take the left and right corners and fold them up to the middle

Fold the same pieces down to the right and left outside edge of the square. What was the inner fold, will line up with the edge of the outer square - see the picture below...

Open up the pockets you've just created and press them down. The image below shows the right side with this step done, be sure to do it on both sides.

Fold the small triangles towards you on each side so they are level with the edges of the paper.  This is what makes the little "petals" on the inside of the completed flower.

DSC_0077

Fold the triangle in half on each side, using the crease you made earlier.

Apply glue or double-sided tape on the outside triangle, stick it to the other side. This is your first petal. To complete the flower, you need to make 4 more of these petals and glue them together.
